The glock just seemed more controllable and ran better for me personally. I do like the grip safety however. I have been running a Glock 20 for about 8 years now. I have tried the older twenties the slim frame and the new gen 4. The Gen4 is a much better fit for me personally. I have not personally tried the xd 10mm so I can't comment on it.Glock Vs. Compared to the Glock, the 1911 is a weighty beast. At 39 ounces (with an empty magazine), the 1911 outweighs the Glock by more than a pound. The Glock's lightweight design alone makes it far more suited for all-day carry. It's just easier and more convenient to carry a lightweight weapon than a heavy, uncomfortable one.

It will also give you the option to get the grip length of the regular 43 with a 7 round mag or a more full grip with the 8 or 9 rounders. The Glock is lighter but has no short grip option.

The 30S with a flush 9 round mag is the same height as a XDS with a 5 round mag, is a bit wider, by about a quarter of an inch and is about half an inch longer. The trade off is significantly increased capacity. 23 rounds with a chambered round, flush mag and G21 mag as a reload.

One of these days I'll disassemble the two and weigh parts to try to figure out where all the extra mass in the XD is, vs. the Glock.
